Holden Cancer Center Donation

Grinnell Mutual Foundation supports cancer center

The Grinnell Mutual Group Foundation (GMGF) donated $50,000 to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, Iowa’s only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center.

The GMGF has been a faithful supporter of the Center and of other area health-care providers.

The funds will help the Center expand cancer research and prevention efforts, and enhances its ability to prevent, detect, and treat cancer patients.

“Unfortunately, cancer touches us all and disproportionately so for our communities in the Midwest, said President and CEO Dave Wingert. “Grinnell Mutual is pleased to help support the life-saving research and programs of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. The advancements over the last several years have been incredible but there is still more work to be done and we’re proud to assist with their efforts.”

Iowa is a cancer hot spot, according to the Iowa Environmental Council, with the second-highest cancer rate in the U.S. It is one of only two states where the rate is rising.

“While the U.S. has a declining overall cancer rate, Iowa's is sharply increasing,” the Council said. “More than 170,000 Iowans share the experience of living with a past or current cancer diagnosis.”
