Grinnell Mutual earns WELCOA’s Top 50 Active Company designation

The Wellness Council of America (WELCOA) has presented Grinnell Mutual with one of its Top 50 Active Company designations as part of WELCOA’s On the Move initiative, a competition focused on fostering national corporate health concerns, including physical inactivity.

Eighty-four companies representing almost 80,000 employees participated in the 12-week online challenge spanning April, May, and June. The challenge offered participating employees educational resources, behavior modification incentives, social support, and activity ideas.

“Traditional wellness program challenges don’t zero in on culture change or connect employees with why it’s important to get and stay active,” said Ryan Picarella, president of WELCOA. “We wanted to start a program where employees get credit for moving when they want, how they want, and how much they want. On the Move helps foster energy and camaraderie in the workplace and allows the environment to thrive.”

Employees tracked their activities, activity duration, and activity intensity through the online On the Move algorithm. Out of the 56 companies placed on the Enterprise Leaderboard (100 or more employees), Grinnell Mutual ranked #30.

“Grinnell Mutual is always thinking outside the box when it comes to wellness,” said Barbara Majerus, Grinnell Mutual employee benefits manager. “We’ve made a strong commitment to our employees’ well-being, from offering nutritious options in our cafeteria and company store to implementing an on-site fitness center, campus health clinic, financial wellness program, and even sit-stand work stations.”
