Balancing Acts and Beyond

Before coming to Grinnell Mutual, Traci Taylor was looking for new work. She had several friends and family who worked at the company and had heard wonderful things about it, and her family encouraged her to apply.

Taylor’s journey with Grinnell Mutual started when she took an entry-level internal auditor position. She worked her way up through the company ranks, gaining experience and learning new skills along the way. Her hard work eventually landed her in a senior internal auditing position, and then her current position as managing director of auditing.

For Taylor, being promoted to a management role wasn’t just a personal accomplishment. “I love being in a leadership role, and being able to work with my team,” she said. In helping them grow as professionals, she helps herself as well.

Taylor also loves her role because of how unique it is within the company, and because she has a chance to work with everyone in the company at some point. “I have met a lot of great people and got to see a lot of great parts of the company that not everyone has the opportunity to see,” she said.

Finding balance

Something that Traci has always loved about the company is its commitment to work-life balance. Taylor has two daughters, ages 12 and 14, who are both very active in sports. Since her kids keep her busy, her leadership group helps her not only be a present mom, but also a great employee.

Taylor said there are other ways Grinnell Mutual has supported her, too. Last November, Taylor signed up to be a kidney donor if she was a match for someone in need. In March of this year, Taylor did match with a community member and donated her kidney.

During her recovery process, she had the full support of her colleagues. “It brought tears to my eyes to see the support I was receiving with everyone checking up on me,” she said. “It meant the world to me, and it says a lot about the people who work here.”

Outside of her parental and work duties, Taylor loves the outdoors. In the summertime she loves to fish and be out on the water with friends and family.

And as her co-workers can attest, Taylor also loves to sing wherever she is — whether she’s out on the town or in the office.
