Policy cancellation moratorium for some Indiana counties

The Indiana Department of Insurance has issued Bulletin 274, which institutes a 60-day moratorium for cancellation or non-renewal of any insurance policy due to the failure to pay premiums for any policyholder directly affected by the tornadoes and severe storms that occurred on March 14, 2024. Any penalty for late payment of premium should also be suspended.

Impacted counties are: Delaware, Jefferson, and Randolph.

This moratorium will last 60 days from the signing of Bulletin 274 which was March 25, 2024. The Department expects insurers to apply this moratorium retroactively to the day before the disaster events occurred in each impacted area. This means the moratorium is in effect March 13–May 24, 2024.
